The latest addition to the Aussie Rules portfolio are the terrific wines from Killibinbin in Langhorne Creek (SA). Killibinbin was established by Guy & Liz Adams in 1997 and is produced at their Brothers in Arms winery in the region. Can you believe that these beauties have never been in the UK before?
Located around 60 kilometres from Adelaide, this is red wine country, pure & simple! Around half of the production in Langhorne Creek is Cabernet & Shiraz, it’s what they do best. During the ripening period, temperatures in the vineyards can get incredibly hot, but at around 4pm the ‘Lake Breeze’ kicks which cools the vineyards like an air conditioner being switched on. Temperatures can drop from 35 to 18 degrees within an hour, this ensures a longer ripening period and allowing the natural tannin structure to develop.
The word Killibinbin is Aboriginal and means “to shine and be bright”..I can confirm, the fruit in these wines is bright and the labels do indeed shine! The labels have a common theme of sultry, femme fatale characters from a 1950’s film noir thriller. I found myself wondering what was happening in the scene’s depicted on the labels, whilst savouring the wines. Enjoy!
